The South Central Premier Academy teams just returned from a Showcase in Greensboro, NC. Our first night there the team dinner was held at Carrabba’s Italian Grill. The CEO of this corporation has two children afflicted with Friedreich’s Ataxia. This is a progressive neuro-muscluar disease that affects one in 50,000 people in the U.S.

Arrangements were made for the entire dinner bill for both teams to be donated to the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) in the name of South Central Premier.

You can get more information about FARA by visiting their website – www.cureFA.org. You can also find a Carrabba’s near you at www.carrabbas.com.

Two SCP U17/18 Players Ranked in Top 10 overall SPARQ Ratings
by posted 06/08/2009

The SCP Academy Teams recently completed their second round of SPARQ (Speed, Power, Agility, Recovery, Quickness) testing for the ’08-’09 season.  The first testing was done in December at the Winter Showcase.  The most recent test was just completed at the Spring Showcase in Sarasota, FL.  The players were tested twice this season to track player progress over the year.

The SPARQ rating measures an athlete’s athletic ability for a given sport.  The components included in this score are height, weight, agility test, beep test, vertical jump, and a 20 meter sprint. Players can compare their overall and individual component scores against teammates, other clubs and even the pros.

SCP is proud to announce 2 players from the U17/18 team ranked in the top ten of all Academy players in the country in the overall rating.   Jesse Menzies was 2nd with a score of 111.58 and Michael White was 7th with a score of 109.23.  In the individual components, Jesse was tie for 7th in the agility testing with a time of 14.84 seconds and tie for 7th with a 20 meter sprint time of 2.82 seconds.

Congratulations boys on a job well done!

South Central Premier is among 79 clubs nationwide
by andrew paolillo posted 08/01/2008

The U.S. Soccer Federation has renewed the membership of the South Central Soccer Club in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for the 2009-10 season!  South Central is exclusive in that was one of the first of 64 of 79 highly competitive clubs nationwide to be chosen by the U.S. Soccer Federation. The program’s revolutionary initiative is the emphasis in the development of the player by improving their daily playing environment. SCP is an inaugural member and is one of only two Connecticut clubs, Oakwood being the second club, to participate in the Development Academy program.

SCP plays in the competitive Northeast Division, which recently added The New England Revolution for 2009 – 2010 Season. This addition affects SCP in that we will play the Revolution twice in the upcoming season. New clubs for 2009-2010 include teams from California, Texas, Kansas, Virginia and New Jersey.

The creation of the development Academy is designed to enhance the U.S. National Team  which has culled in 2008 more than 100 player as well as over 800 players have continued onto college soccer; including several of our own SCP players who have commitments to colleges. Colleges routinely use the Academy’s playing environment as a scouting venue to enhance their respective programs.

The Academy strives to provide players, coaches and referees a national-coordinated program to enhance their collective development and create a structured environment for high- level consistent matches for evaluation from colleges to National teams.
