South Central Premier renews with U. S. Soccer for 2011-2012
by posted 03/22/2011

The United States Soccer Federation has renewed the membership of South Central Premier in the U. S. Soccer Development Academy for the 2011-12 season!  South Central Premier, one of the first 64 teams selected to participate back in 2007, was once again selected by U. S. Soccer to participate in the highly competitive, nationwide U. S. Soccer Development Academy Program, for the 2011-2012 Season.  The Development Academy’s revolutionary initiative is the emphasis on the development of the player by improving the daily playing environment.  SCP is an inaugural member in this program and is one of only two Connecticut clubs to be selected to participate.

SCP plays in the competitive Northeast Division, which also includes: The New England Revolution; The Boston Bolts, Seacoast (New Hampshire) United, Empire (Syracuse, New York) United and Oakwood Soccer Club (Glastonbury, Connecticut).  SCP will play each of these teams twice each season, and will also play teams from outside its Division, within the East Conference, once per season.  The East Conference includes such clubs as The New York Red Bulls and D. C. United; two of the youth academies affiliated with their parent, Major League Soccer clubs.

During each of two "showcase" events held at varied locations in the United States each year, SCP will also play clubs from the other three Development Academy Conferences.  This past December, in Phoenix, Arizona, SCP played MLS Youth Academy Teams: Sporting Kansas City and The Colorado Rapids as well as FC Milwaukee, from the Central Conference.

The U. S. Soccer Development Academy is designed to enhance the U. S. National Team.  Going into this current, 2010-2011 Season, over 250 players were called into a Youth National Team camp or trip since the fall of 2007, from 59 different Academy clubs.  In addition, over 85% of Academy Players, including several of our own SCP players, have moved on to play soccer in College.  College scouts and National Team scouts routinely use the Academy’s playing environment as a scouting venue to enhance their respective programs.  Furthermore, many professional scouts attend the Academy Showcase events, as well as some games.

The Academy strives to provide players, coaches and referees a nationally-coordinated program to enhance their collective development and create a structured environment for high- level consistent matches for evaluation from colleges to National teams.

For more information, please visit:  USSOCCER.COM and click on the "Academy" link at the bottom of the page.  While there, check up on the progress of our men's and women's National Teams and the future of U. S. Soccer through the success of our Youth National Team program.
